Legend Belgian Style Tripel
Six Months of aging brings a soft smoothness to this sweet, complex ale. The result is a “sipping beer” that doesn’t seem like one. By this we mean that Legend Tripel is a deceptively strong beer to be shared with friends and family in celebration and moderation. Legend Tripel is brewed on a Belgian abbey style yeast strain which imparts combinations including banana, clove, apple, pear, even bubblegum. Serve with mild cheeses, roasted pork or turkey. 8.7% ABV.
Our most popular beer, Legend's is a full bodied version of a British Brown Ale. Expect a rich, malt-forward brew with a beautiful mahogany tone. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. Fruity undertones provided by our house yeast strain bring the final flavor element to round out this world class ale. 6% ABV.
Legend Chocolate Stout
This Special Spring Stout starts off with a dry roasty malt flavor and a bit of chocolate in the background. The addition of smoked malt rounds out the full rich flavor of the beer. Light hopping is added for balance. 6.0% ABV.
Legend E.S.B. serves as a medium octane winter warmer that brings flavor without chaos. This British style Extra Special Bitter pours a deep red-orange and possesses an intensely aromatic nose of ripe fruit (apple, pear, blackberry). Expect a flavor of sweet fruit turning in a warm caramel toasty direction. This beer’s muscular body and dry, earthy finish pair excellently with roasted meats, root vegetables, and mild cheeses. 7% ABV.
In the image of an English IPA, Legend Golden is a big, full-bodied brew with the perfect balance between malty sweetness and hop bitterness. Years ago, as an experimental brew, this underdog of a beer found it's way into the hearts of Legend patrons and became a cult classic in Richmond. Legend Golden has been described as a "high class malt liquor" by a note able source. This strong ale sports a rich gold color, an aroma of sweet malt and clean hops, and an earthy, fruity flavor. 7% ABV.
This beer's unusual name comes from the German "weiss" (wheat), and "hefe" (yeast). Therefore, a hefeweizen is an unfiltered wheat beer. Weizen beers are something of an anomaly among German beers, as they are fermented on ale yeast whereas virtually all other beers from this country are lagers. The yeast strain dominates the aroma and flavor profile in this brew. If you suspect we added banana and clove to the beer, you are simply picking up qualities of this wonderful yeast. Our Hefeweizen is mashed with a 50/50 blend of wheat malt and barley malt. The wheat portion of the mash is responsible for keeping the flavor crisp and the body light. Hallertau and Sterling hops are used minimally for balance and another dimension of spice. Expect an intense aroma of fruit (banana, apricot, citrus), and spice (clove, pepper). The initial flavor is sharp and tart, yielding to a malty sweetness in the middle. The finish is effervescent, dry, and quenching. Legend Hefeweizen is the perfect match for light summer fare including salads, seafood, and grilled meats. Available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles all summer. 5% ABV..
The full-bodied malty palate of this traditional style strong lager carries flavors of honey and light toast. Fermented on the same yeast strain as our Doppelbock, this copper hued brew is offered on draft only in a very limited quantity this spring. - Brewed with a blend of Munich and medium kilned malts for a smooth, rich character - Modestly hopped with Willamette for a pleasant aroma and a subtle, balancing bitterness - Fermented on an authentic German lager yeast strain for a clean background and a malt enhanced finish - 7% ABV.
Fermentation takes place on a fruity British yeast strain, and the beer is left partially unfiltered for added character. Look for a deep orange colored beer, with a distinct pine/fruit aroma. Expect an intensely flavored brew, with hop flavor lasting throughout. There is a toasty, earthy background, adding a rich, malty dimension to the long finish. The finishing finish, however (the everlasting residual taste), is of hops, and of good and precious ones. 7.0% ABV.
Legend Pale Ale
Our American style Pale Ale is a hop lover's dream. We craft this copper colored ale to supply a moderate bitterness and an aggressive hop flavor and aroma. Willamette hops pitched early in the boil give a clean, soft bitterness. Late kettle hops include Northern Brewer, Simcoe, and Chinook for plenty of pungent pine and citrus character. Judicious amounts of four specialty malts add counter and depth. Expect a medium bodied brew with an assertive, complex flavor and a dry finish. 6% ABV.
